Bihar has appointed 14-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi as vice-captain for the first two matches of the upcoming Ranji Trophy season, with Sakibul Gani as captain. The team will face Arunachal Pradesh in their Plate League opener at Moin-ul-Haq Stadium from October 15. The Bihar Cricket Association announced the squad late Sunday.
Suryavanshi made his Ranji debut at just 12 and became the youngest player (13) to secure an IPL contract with Rajasthan Royals. He holds the record as the youngest male cricketer (14) to score a T20 century, also achieving the second-fastest century in IPL history with a 35-ball hundred against Gujarat Titans.
Bihar, relegated to the Plate League after a winless previous season, will benefit from Suryavanshi’s talent, though he may not play the full season due to potential inclusion in India’s Under-19 World Cup squad.
