PANJIM: 24 hours after the passing of the deadline for submitting the entries by numbers on December 18, there is still no clarity on the number of participating countries or number of participants for the Lusofonia Games Goa 2014.
It is learned from sources that the previously stated number of registered participants which was 600 foreigners and 300 Indians has now considerably reduced. However, the officials are unwilling to comment on the same.
When contacted, CEO Keshav Chandra informed Herald that he was unaware of the new numbers and shall find out any changes later in the evening.
He further passed the on the buck saying, “contact Lenny Da Gama, FA head of sports, for details on the same.”
Lenny Da Gama told the Herald “no new entries have come in as far as I know, however today being a holiday in Goa, I am out of the office and I will be able to clarify and confirm the numbers only by tomorrow morning.”
The question of accountability now comes into play.
In other news, the Table Tennis Federation of India has announced the final team that will represent team Goa (India) for the table tennis men and women competition at the Lusofonia Games scheduled in January.
Following are the teams: Men’s: Anthony Arputharaj Amalral, Soumyajit Ghosh, Harmeet Raul Desai, Adarsh P. and Diljeet Vilingkar.
Women’s: Kumaresan Shamini, Madhurika Suhas Patkar, Ankita Das, Tanisi Kirtani and Divya D’Mello. Coaches: Peter Paul Engel of Germany and Irwin Cordo. Men’s manager Subhash Pandit and Women Manager Lalan Naik.
