PORVORIM: Goa’s Abhinav Tejrana made history with a stunning double century on his first-class debut as the State side ended Day 2 of their Ranji Trophy match against Chandigarh, at the Goa Cricket Association Academy ground, here, with a commanding total of 566 all out.
Batting at No. 3, Tejrana had already impressed on Day 1 with an unbeaten 130. On Day 2, he added 70 more runs, reaching 205 from 320 deliveries, laced with 21 fours and four sixes.
His innings marked the first double century by a Goan batter in the Ranji Trophy and placed him among only 13 players in the tournament’s history to score a double hundred on debut – a list that includes legendary names Gundappa Viswanath and Amol Muzumdar. Tejrana’s fourth-wicket stand with Lalit Yadav produced 309 runs, falling just one run short of Goa’s record for the wicket previously held by Rahul Keni and Ajay Ratra.
In reply, Chandigarh faced an early blow when Arjun Tendulkar trapped Shivam Bhambri lbw for 2 runs.
At stumps, Chandigarh were 34 for 1 in eight overs, with Arjun Azad and captain Manan Vohra at the crease, hoping to negotiate Goa’s formidable bowling attack on Day 3.
