Ambelim Sports Club edged out Betalbatim Sporting Club 6-5 via the tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of 2nd All-Goa Cuncolim Union Trophy inter-village football tournament organised by Cuncolim Union at school ground, Cuncolim on Saturday. The teams were level 2-2 at the end of the regulation period.
Betalbatim took the lead in the 18th minute when Joseph Fernandes neatly found the net after receiving a pass from Joe Rodrigues. In the 24th minute, Betalbatim’s Joe Rodrigues doubled the lead when he unleashed a stiff grounder which beat the rival goalkeeper.
Crossing over, Ambelim kept themselves in the hunt for goals and finally reduced the margin when Maxwin Fernandes punished the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. With time running out, Donald struck the equalizer for Ambelim.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Benny Silva, Clydon Silva, Tiburcio Fernandes and Romeo Fernandes scored for Ambelim while Desmond Fernandes, Jose Fernandes and Luis Rogtao converted for Betalbatim.
In the semi-finals, Ambelim will meet Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda on May 26.
