CHINCHINIM: Bardez Veterans defeated Monti Veterans Benaulim 6-4 via the tie-breaker to move into the semi-final of the Pick-up Drivers Veterans football tournament, played at Our Lady of Hope Church ground, Chinchinim, on Wednesday.
In the first minute, Bardez Veterans Bruno Coutinho took control of the ball and made a daunting run in the rival territory but Alfred Fernandes of Monti Veterans, Benaulim tackled his move.
Mintues later, Alfred’s shot from close range but was thwarted by the Bardez defender.
Substitute Manuel Fernandes of Monti Veterans should have found the ball at the back of Bardez nets but the rival keeper was equal to the task in the 12th minute.
Benaulim’s Jose Pereira’s shot from the top of the box earned the first dividend for Benaulim in the 15th minute.
Bardez levelled terms in the 20th minute through Bruno Coutinho.
After that a counter attack by Jose Pereira of Benaulim made it 2-1 in the 21st minute.
But the joy was short-lived as Alvin Fernandes coolly placed the ball into Benaulim nets to level terms.
As the match progressed, Jose completed his hat-trick in the 48th minutes, while Bruno Coutinho levelled terms for Bardez in the last minute of second half.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Bardez Veterans proved to be better shooters.
