BCCI moves to impeach ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi amid Asia Cup trophy row

BCCI seeks ACC President Mohsin Naqvi’s impeachment after Asia Cup 2025 trophy dispute. India alleges breach of protocol and conflict of interest.

India is preparing to seek the impeachment of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi following the post-match controversy at the Asia Cup 2025 final in Dubai. The BCCI accused Naqvi of breaching ceremonial protocols and neglecting his responsibilities as ACC chief.

The issue arose after Naqvi allegedly bypassed formal procedures during the trophy presentation, refusing to hand the trophy and medals to the Indian team. India had requested an Emirati official to present the awards, but Naqvi left with the trophy instead.

Critics argue that Naqvi’s dual role as Pakistan’s Interior Minister and PCB Chairman creates a conflict of interest, politicising cricket administration. The matter is expected to be raised at the ICC meeting in November.

The trophy is now with the UAE Cricket Board, but the incident has sparked calls for accountability and may prompt a no-confidence vote against Naqvi, potentially altering cricket governance in Asia.
