DULER: Calangute Association managed to squeeze past Clube Sao Minguel de Taleigao by a solitary goal win in the GFA’s Goa Pro League match, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Tuesday.
The heavy downpour in the first session of play made it difficult for both the sides, thereby restricting the action to the midfield for a long duration.
Calangute Association seemed more determined to wrap up the match in their favour and record their first win in the league.
In the 13th minute of play Sao Minguel de Taleigao keeper Rohan Sheikh did well to get his hands to Rohan Kamble’s curling cross and in the next minute Yogesh Kadam failed to get his feet to Terrence Lobo’s low cross into the Sao Minguel de Taleigao danger zone.
In the 34th minute of play Terrence saw his direct kick sail inches past Sao Minguel de Taleigao crossbar.
The Calangute Assn colts got off on an offensive note in the second session where in the 46th minute itself Pedro Gonsalves took control of the ball and set up Yogesh Kadam on the edge of the 18-yard box, who did not delay a bit and made a powerful strike to which the rival goal keeper had no answer, thus making it 1-0, and giving Calangute Assn the desired lead.
Sao Minguel de Taleigao should had restored parity in the 53rd minute of play but Calangute Assn defender Melvin Lobo did well to block Pramod Mardolkar from creating any damage.
Sao Minguel de Taleigao keeper once again came to his sides rescue, when in the 57th minute as he flung himself to the right, to pair away Agnelo Colaco’s 25-yard free kick.
Minutes into the match, Agnelo Colaco almost scored the second goal for Calangute Association, however his right footer ricocheted off the Sao Minguel de Taleigao woodwork.
