RAIA: Calangute Veterans stormed into the final of 23rd All Goa veterans football tournament with a thrilling 4-2 tie-breaker victory over Ilhas Veterans, at the Flame of Unity Sports Club ground, at Per Seraulim ground, on Sunday.
A large Sunday crowd braved persistent rain to witness a fiercely contested battle as both sides played aggressive football despite the slippery conditions. Both teams delivered a display of grit and determination.
The first half saw Calangute dominate ball possession through Robert and Allwyn’s midfield brilliance, setting up Seby, but Ilhas goalkeeper Ishwar stood tall with crucial saves.
Ilhas retaliated with Atul and Venencio pressing forward, though they lacked the finishing touch.
As the clock ticked down with the scoreline locked at 0-0, penalties became inevitable. Calangute rose to the occasion, with Allwyn, Robert, Seby and Fausto converting flawlessly, while only Ramesh and Neville succeeded for Ilhas. The victory books Calangute a well-deserved place in the final.
