Hosts Cana Benaulim Sporting Association pipped Sai Avtar ,Anjuna 4-2 via the tie-breaker to romp into the semi-finals of 33rd Cana Benaulim Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Cana Benaulim Sporting Association at Dando ground, Benaulim on Tuesday. The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of normal period.
Sai Avtar started with a flourish with Sunit Korgaonkar bulging the net as he picked up a through pass from Rosario.
Cana Benaulim put up a better display in the second session and tested the rival goal with snap shots. Their persistent raids fetched them dividends when Caridade Rebello slotted past the Anjuna goalkeeper off a fine pass from Carlos Fernandes.
Cana Benaulim were in full cry in the last ten minutes and raided the Anjuna citadel but they yielded no fruits.
Ligorio Noronha of Sai Avtar was declared man-of-the match.
In the tie-breaker, Santan Fernandes, Joaquim Fernandes and Grayferns Fernandes scored for Cana Benaulim Sporting Association while Lawrence Pereira converted for Sai Avtar.
