MARGAO, SEPT 12
Chandor Club came from behind to beat Raia Sporting Club 6-4 via the tie-breaker to romp into the quarter-finals of 29th Gold Silver Rolling Trophy inter-village football tournament organised by Navelim Sporting Club at Rosary ground, Navelim on Sunday. Chandor were trailing 0-1 at half time.
Raia went into the attack right from the start and made a couple of forays into the rival penalty area. Their persistent raids paid off when Allister Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a stiff shot.
Raia had more opportunities but their forwards frittered away easy scoring chances in ideal positions.
Chandor tried their best to neutralise the lead but it went in vain as the rival defenders were alert in frustrating the rival attacks.
Crossing over, Chandor were desperate and went all out and got several chances to score in the initial period but Lady Luck didn’t seem to favour them.
Chandor made their last-ditch efforts and found success through Sammy Dias.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Sammy Dias, Benny Peixoto, Peter Peixoto, Leo Menezes and Felix Peixoto were on target for Chandor while Adolfo Cardozo, Oilex Oliveira and Don Fernandes converted for Raia Sporting Club.
