AMBELIM: Chandor Sports Club sailed into the final of the Lourdes Soccer Cup, organised by Ambelim Sports Club, defeating Cuncolim Union 2-0, at Ambelim ground, on Sunday.
The semi-finals was expected to be a thrilling encounter as both side fielded their best playing eleven.
Chandor’s Lino D’sa had the first chance of the match when he met Succoro’s free-kick but the former’s effort failed to beat the keeper.
Chandor SC had their chances in the first half but the Cuncolim SC keeper Shaikh was at his best and kept his team in the game sending them 0-0 at the break.
Crossing over, Cuncolim had a rear chance when Trijoy’s cross was misjudged by the Chandor defence but his effort narrowly sailed over the bar.
The Chandor players started to lose their cool in front of the rival goal as their strikers started misfiring their shots.
Chandor managed to break the deadlock through Lino in the final quarter.
Benson further inflated the lead in the dying minutes of the game to take the match beyond Cuncolim’s reach.
Ambelim SC tried their best to get in the game but were not clinical in their finishing.
