PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, despite the hectic Assembly schedule, has been quietly monitoring the progress of the ongoing works for hosting the 3rd Lusofonia Games in Goa in November.
It was well past 11.30 p.m. on Monday, that Parrikar asked Chief Engineer J Chimulkar to accmompany him to take stock of the progress of the ongoing works at Taleigao (indoor stadium for volleyball and basketball) and the athletic track at Bambolim.
Work on pre-fabricated trusses was going in full swing and the roofs for then stadiums at Taleigao as well as Peddem are expected to be in place by May 25, as per the timeframe. Similarly, the work on both tracks at Bambolim as well as Peddem are expected to be ready by May 25, well ahead of the monsoon. Both tracks, which are identical will be to international specifications. That will be a red letter day for Goa, and especially athletics, which did not have a single track all these years, despite the fact that tartan track was sanctioned by Govt of India some years ago.
The electronics equipment will also be procured and everything will be tested much ahead, with even plans for an athletic meet in October so that a dry run can be conducted.
