RAIA: Cuncolim Union defeated Raitura SC 5-3 via the tie-breaker to move into the semi-final of the All Goa Rachol Overseas Cup, an inter-village football tournament, organised by Raitura Sports Club, at Panchayat ground, Raia, on Friday.
Both teams missed best chances and score in the fulltime.
In the second minute Cuncolim Union’s lanky striker Daulat Dessai took control of the ball from Mairon Fernandes and dribbled past Allwyn Dias and Johny D’Cruz both of Raitura, before unleashing shot at the goal, but to his dismay rival keeper Guilmerene Gomes was equal to the task.
Wilfred Gomes of Raitura SC had the best chance to score off a through pass from Llyod Cardoza in the 4th minute, but the former’s powerful grounder was saved by Jerrico Dias goalkeeper of Cuncolim Union.
Saurab Patephekar of Cuncolim tested the Raitura goalkeeper from close range but Jerrico was equal to the task in the 12th minute.
A corner kick taken by Saurab for Cuncolim curled inside Raitura box, Daulat rose the highest to head in but Johny D’Cruz of Raitura blocked his header from the goal line in the 29th minute.
Daulat’s solo effort from outside the box of Raitura failed to enter the nets, as the striker’s shot hit the goalpost and went out of play in the 36th minute.
Jaison Barbosa of Raitura header missed the Cuncolim nets in the 40th minute.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Myron Fernandes, Frazier Fernandes, Edny Fernandes, Deepak Velip and Bhasrat Gaonkar netted for Cuncolim Union, whiel Daniel Gomes,Roman Gomes and Joe Pango scored for Raitura SC.
