MARGAO: Fr Agnel Youth Sports Club, Paroda shunted out CAC, Cansaulim 8-7 via sudden death to storm into the finals of all-Goa St Anthony’s UK Super Soccer tournament organized by St Anthony’s SC, Colva, at DYSA ground, Colva, on Tuesday.
Fr Agnel were trailing 0-1 at half time. CAC Cansaulim started the game in an aggressive mode with their forwards and midfielders working in tandem to put the rival defence under tremendous pressure. Persistent forays bore the fruit in the 24th minute when Chadwick Furtado’s well measured floater was headed home by striker Agnelo D’Souza.
Stung by setback, Fr Agnel made concentrated efforts with Kanchan Khiro troubling the rival defence but CAC Cansaulim goalkeeper came to his side’s rescue by showing fine anticipation and reflexes to protect the slender lead.
Post resumption, Fr Agnel put up a better performance and swarmed all over the rival territory. There was flurry of attacks but rival defenders soaked the pressure in the initial period. After couple of misses by Fr Agnel forwards, Godfrey Rodrigues found the equalizer when he punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
In the penalty shoot out, Anthony Dias, Kanchan Khiro, Aveson D’Costa, Pascoal Fernandes, Godfrey Rodrigues and Socorro Colaco were on target for Fr Agnel while Chadwick Furtado, Brian Menezes, Domnick Soares, Elvino Fernandes, Agnelo D’Souza and Josley Fernandes converted for CAC Cansaulim. In the sudden death, Macroy Lima was successful for Fr Agnel while Desmond Fernandes failed for CAC Cansaulim.
