PANJIM: There was a festive spirit in the air as the parents of the children and the staff of the Goa football Development Council got together in a tie-breaker match to celebrate the 1st anniversary of Pernem Football Development Centre, recently.
The children clapped and joined the celebrations with all those involved in marking the first birthday of the centre, by cutting the birthday cake.
“You have to have to lay emphasis on regularity at practice, your dietary intake and the time you give to your studies. Your mind has to be in tune with your body to be good footballers.  Pernem, where football was hardly played, has done well having so many children in this centre, including one who has been selected for the GFDC North Pre-academy”, stated GFDC chairman Dr Rufino Monteiro.
Complimenting the many young girls in the centre, Dr Rufino asked them “to raise in their game as women’s football was finding its feet, once again.”
Through the offices of the GFDC, GSUDA has floated a tender of over 21 lakhs to do the football ground at St Joseph High School for the benefit of the children and the village,” declared Dr Rufino.
