PANJIM: GVM’s Gopal Govind Poy Raiturcar College of Commerce and Economics, Farmagudi and Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao, emerged champions in the 38thInter-Collegiate Athletics Championship Men and Women 2025-26 organised by Goa University at the SAG’s Athletics Stadium, Bambolim, recently.
Around 900 athletes from 46 colleges affiliated to Goa University participated in this three-day championship.
Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Director Dr Ajay Gaude was the
chief guest for the opening ceremony and inaugurated the championship.
A total of three records were broken in the athletic meet which are as follows: 400m Hurldes Women – Riddhi Sawant of DM’S College, Assagao, with a performance of 1:12.02. 4x400m Relay Men – GVM’s GPPR College, Farmagudi, with a performance of 3:32.98. Hammer Throw Men – Bhosle Rudra of DM’s College, Assagao, with a performance of 37.71 metres.
Best Athlete Man and Woman of the championship was awarded to Vishal Das of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics, Margao, and Rani Degvekar of Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao, respectively.
For the prize distribution ceremony, chief guest former India captain Padmashri Brahmanand Shankhwalkar, guest of honour Deputy Director (Sports), Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Vivek Pawar along with Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University Balachandra Jadar graced the occasion and presented the trophies and medals to the winners and runners-up.
Overall championship result: Men winners: GVM’s Gopal Govind Poy Raiturcar College of Commerce and Economics, Farmagudi. Runners-up: Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao. Second runners-up: Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Quepem. Women winners: Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao. Runners-up: Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim. Second runners-up: Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Khandola.
