PANJIM: Reigning champions, Indian Oil and ONGC teams dominated on the inaugural day to move into the semi-finals of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) inter-unit carrom tournament organized by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd at Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Mira Mar, here, Sunday.
In both, men and women categories, Indian Oil and ONGC teams topped the league phase with resounding victories over their less fancied opponents to enter the semi-finals of the team championships.
Leading carrom players of the country such as current national champion K Srinivas, World Cup winner, Yogesh Pardeshi, former Asian champion Sandeep Devrukhkar, World champions Rashmi Kumari and S Ilavazhaki and SAARC title winner Parimala Devi exhibited their class.
Results: Men – Indian Oil beat EIL 3-0; CPCL beat EIL 2-1; HPCL beat GAIL 3-0; ONGC beat GAIL 3-0, Indian Oil beat CPCL 3-0, ONGC beat HPCL 3-0.
Women – ONGC beat EIL 3-0; Indian Oil beat GAIL 3-0; EIL beat CPCL 3-0; ONGC beat CPCL 3-0; HPCL beat GAIL 3-0; Indian Oil beat HPCL 3-0.
ONGC will take on CPCL and Indian Oil will clash with HPCL in the men’s semi-finals while Indian Oil play EIL and ONGC face HPCL in the women’s semi-finals on Monday.
Earlier, S S Bapat, executive director, Indian Oil, western region inaugurated the championships in the presence of D V Prasad, organising secretary, Indian Oil and Vivek Satyajit, joint secretary, PSPB.
