PANJIM: Playing both matches against the St John’s Cricket Academy on their ground at Hakeem Peth, MCA U-16 were outplayed by the St John’s by 88 runs while Sportsweek went down fighting when they lost in the last over with two balls to spare.
In the first match between, MCA and St John’s (U-16), winning the toss and electing to bat St John’s lost a quick wicket at 5 runs but Shanmukh (39) and Amanrao (68) shared a 140 runs partnership before Saiesh Satardekar got them out in quick succession.
Though MCA managed to restrict their opponents at 197 all down in 40 overs, the total was out of reach for the MCA batsmen as they collapsed for 109.
Omprakash Lenka (6-24) was the pick of the bowlers while Saiesh Satardekar (2-37) and Rishikesh Desai (2-12) supported him well.
Tanuj Khandekar (26), Siddesh Raskar (21) and Kaushal Singh (22) started well but could not sustain the disciplined bowling by St John’s spinners. Vashisht, Mayank and Shanmukh we’re the pick of the bowlers claiming 2 wickets each.
In the second match between Sportsweek CC and St John’s (U-14), 12-year-old Jarvis Faleiro carried the bat (75*) for Sportsweek in the U-14 match as Sportsweek were all down for 186 in 37 overs.
Sanath Nevagi (12) and Deven Chittam (17) supported him well. Anchit (4-25) was the pick of the bowlers.
Chasing the target the bigger boys of St John’s had to huff and puff to reach 188 in the 40th over with two balls to spare. Sanath Nevagi (2-33) and Shaunak took 1 with for Sportsweek.
