PANJIM: A second half hat-trick from Mabel Miranda helped United Club Telaulim beat Goa Velha Sports Club 3-0 in the Geno First Division League in association with Jhoncy Restaurant Benaulim, organised by Goa Football Association (GFA) and played at Artificial Turf Fatorda, on Saturday.
Both the sides got off to an even start as they resorted to more of midfield play. The Goa Velha side were attacked by the Telaulim side but they denied them the chance of scoring as both teams went into the half goalless.
In the second half, the Telaulim side began from where they had left. Abhay Shetty covered some ground on the right side and he sent in a beautiful ball inside the box as Mabel Miranda who was lurking in the rival box, headed the ball home to open the scoring in the 56th minute.
The Telaulim had a chance to double their teams lead in the 70th minute as Abhay was brought down in the box but captain Premson’s spot kick was saved brilliantly by Goa Velha SC keeper thus keeping the Goa Velha side in the hunt for an equaliser.
Later, Valmiky Miranda sent in a cutting ball to substitute Josmon Fernandes but the later failed to shoot in the open goal as the keeper saved his weak shot.
The Tealulim side finally managed to double their lead in the 88th minute as Mabel Miranda completed his brace with a fine finish.
The Telaulim side added further damage onto the Goa Velha side as Mabel Miranda completed his hat trick with a neat finish from the spot. Joel Fernandes was brought down inside the 18 yard by the Goa Velha custodian and Mabel made no mistake to score as he eventually won the Man of the Match award for his performance.
In another game held at Sirsaim ground, Sesa FA and Velsao SCC played out a goalless draw. Both teams had their share of chances but lack of finishing denied the sides goals.
