PANJIM: Mandar Lad emerged champion at the first Centenary Chess Clubs tournament organised by Centenary Chess Club at Baina.
Bardez’s Mandar remained unbeaten champion, securing first place after six rounds. Asmita Ray of Mormugao bagged the second place. Anish Naik from Ponda finished third. The fourth to tenth spots were secured by Dmitry Bezstrakhov, Sudhakar Patgar, Rohit Gawas, Rishikesh Parab, Aniket Ekka, Dr. Brendan Peroz, and Rachel Pereira
The tournament also recognized the young talent of Goa. Ayush Sandeep Naik and Sahil Prasad Naik secured the Under-15 boys prize. Atharv Sawal and Chaitanya Sushant Patil Under-13. Shubh Vishnu Borkar and Rajveer Patil Under-11. Vihaan Tari and Rishit Gawas Under-9.
Other prize winners: Prayank Gaonkar and Prabhudessai Narayan Under-7. Valanka Fernandes and Alysa Coutinho U-15. Aarvi Naik and Israa Rikarty Under-13. Tanisha Uday Naik and Lyia Marysil Silveira Under-11. Skyla Rodrigues and Samriti C Malkar Under-9. Shanaya Dessai and Dacunha Sidonia Under-7. Ansh Pramod Gawas was recognized as the youngest participant.
