MARGAO: Mandopa SC eased past St Anthony SC Colva 3-0 in the Lourdes Soccer, organised by Ambelim Sports Club, at Ambelim ground, on Tuesday.
After starting the match on equal footings, Mandopa SC were given a chance to take the lead when Colva’s Mackson handled the ball in the box and the referee pointed straight to the spot.
Mandopa’s Clinton stepped over and coolly converted from the spot kick to give his side an early lead in the game. There was no much action in the remaining part of the game as Mandopa SC led 1-0 at the break.
Crossing over, Mandopa SC defender Nevil handled the ball in the box and the referee made no hesitation to give a penalty. With a chance to get back in the game, Colva’s Maxson stepped over to take the spot kick, however, his feeble attempt was brilliantly saved by the Mandopa keeper Selvin.
At the other end, Mandopa SC seized their opportunity and scored from a quick counter attack initiated by Climax and his own effort took a major deflection off Colva defender Kabil and entered the goal, 2-0.
After being 2-0 up, Mandopa kept pressing in search of a third goal, however, good goalkeeping Valerian kept St Anthony team in the game.
At the other end, Colva team also had their chances but Mandopa defence weren’t easy to deal with as Nevil amd Velington gave a good account of themselves in the heart of defence.
Mandopa SC finally scored their third goal through Nevil whose long range shot gave no chance to Colva keeper Valerian, who had actually gave a good performance under the bar for his team.
