PORVORIM: MCC Estilo Legends scored their second successive victory in the Goa Women’s Premier League as they crushed Geno Dragons by eight wickets at GCA Academy ground here, on Monday night.
Batting first, Geno Dragons scored a modest 116/8 in the allotted 20 overs. MCC Estilo Legends chased it comfortably in 18.4 overs losing just two wickets. The highlight of the MCC reply was a fine unbeaten half-century by Shreya Parab, 51 runs off 58 balls, and a quickfire 43 off 29 by Gautami Naik. The opening batters put on a fantastic partnership of 78 runs in 10.4 overs to set up the victory for their side. Captain Sunanda Yetrekar provided the finishing touches, remaining 13 not out.

Earlier, Geno failed to put on a batting exhibition like they did in their opening match victory; with only a couple of batters Purvaja Verlekar (35) and captain Anuja Patil (34) making a notable contribution. MCC Estilo Legends bowlers picked wickets at regular intervals with Siddhi Savase (3/26) and Tanvir Shaikh (2/18) being very successful.
Shreya Parab was named the player-of-the match and received the prize from Rajesh Patnekar.
Meanwhile on Sunday, Geno beat Venture XI by 5 wickets in a high-scoring entertaining floodlit clash after MCC Estilo Legends outclassed Manas Panjim Gymkhana by 6 wickets in a drab low-scoring affair. Player-of-the match Ibtisam Shaikh scored an unbeaten 54 off 53 deliveries as Geno achieved the target of 146 in 19.5 overs with five wickets in hand. The Goa wicketkeeper-cum-batter struck six boundaries and a sixer in her responsible inning, and also put on a 72-run partnership with Mitali Gawander (37) for the third wicket, to set the winning start for the Dragons. Venture XI had posted a challenging total of 145/5 with Tamana Nigam scoring a classy 74 runs in 52 balls with her knock being studded with 11 boundaries and a six. Captain Tarannum Pathan scored 31 runs.
Earlier in the day, Manas Panjim Gymkhana slumped to their second successive defeat while MCC Estilo Legends got off to a winning start to the GWPL. Tanvir Shaikh scalped 4 wickets and played a key role in restricting Manas Panjim Gymkhana to a dismal 94/9 in the allotted 20 overs. Resha Korgaonkar was their top scorer with 28 runs off 41 balls, which included four boundaries. Tejal Hasabnis also struck four boundaries in her 21-run knock of 19 balls.
MCC Estilo Legends chased the target in 18 overs with six wickets in hand. Experienced captain Sunanda Yetrekar topscored with 20 runs. Gautami Naik (19), Tanvir Shaikh (12 not out), Shreya Parab (11) and Divya Naik (11) all contributed towards the victory target. Poonam Khemnar picked two wickets for Manas Panjim Gymkhana. Tanvir Shaikh was adjudged the player-of-the match.
