BENAULIM: Navelim Veterans prevail over Curtorim Veterans 4-2 via the tie-breaker to enter the quarter-finals of the 19th V M Salgaocar Memorial Veterans Soccer organised by the Prime Sports Club, at St. John the Baptist ground, Dando, Benaulim, on Monday.
Curtorim was the better team with more ball possession but Navelim defended deep to frustrate the rival forwards Matty Dias and Mario Rebello.
Curtorim had a fine chance to open the scoring in the 19th minute when Pascoal Fernandes set in a fine cross to Seby Carvalho who shot a right footer straight into the hands of Navelim goalkeeper Avertano Furtado.
After the change of ends the pattern remained unchanged but in a breakaway move, Navelim had a fine chance but Claudio Dias shot wide from two yards out.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Navelim were successful through Vishant Pednekar, Claudio Dias, Shaikh Abu and Caetano Pereira while Pascoal Fernandes & Ekles Vaz netted for Curtorim.
