Navelim Parish Youth win Archbishop’s Trophy

NAGOA: Navelim Parish Youth won the 7th Archbishop’s Trophy football tournament defeating Parra Parish Youth by a solitary goal in the final, played at the Panchayat ground, Nagoa, recently. 
Presley Gomes of Navelim Parish Youth netted the  match winner in the 9th minute. 
The Navelim team had many outstanding players in their ranks and Destan, who was named as the best player of the tournament, gave a good account of himself playing in the midfield and getting the Navelim boys to be the ultimate winners of the trophy. 
Parra Parish Youth won the best goalkeeper prize of the tournament for bringing in 7 saves in two of the tie-breakers that the Parra team was involved in and also a penalty kick during the regular time of play in the final match against the Navelim Boys. 
In the girl’s final, it was Calangute Parish which won the tie-breaker tournament defeating the Moira Parish 3-2. The Calangute girls had the better of the Ambaulim Parish Youth in the 1st semi-finals and Moira overcame the team from Taligaon Parish in the 2nd semi-finals.
The Archbishop’s Trophy had 18 deaneries teams participating in the boy’s event which was played on a league cum knockout basis while the girl’s category had 8 teams and the tournament was organised by the Diocesan Youth Center in association with John Paul II foundation for sports Goa. 
Fr Ronald Assistant Parish Priest of Velim Parish gave away the prizes to the winners and the runners-up in the presence of Fr Savio Director, DYC and Kennedy D’Silva, Director, JP2F4S Goa.
