PANJIM: Nerul Sports Club knocked out Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda to enter the semi-finals of 29th All Goa St. Annes Festival Inter-Village Soccer, organised by Ponda Footballers in association with Sports Authority of Goa and played at Animal Husbandry ground, Curti, on Tuesday.
The match ended in a goalless draw and in the tie-breaker Nerul won by 5-3 goals. Throughout the match Nerul had an upper hand while Fatorda were unable to penetrate the defence of Nerul. Mathew and Siddharth were in their best elements.
Most of the ball was confined to the midfield and Nerul Sports Club started in positive note when Paul released a through ball to Janifar who shot straight to the keeper.
Again Janifar had only the keeper at his mercy but ballooned over from close range, this was the best chance for the lad to give his team the much needed lead.
Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda could not penetrate Nerul SC defence and were forced to test the keeper from distance. Francis took long range shot off the target. Nerul’s Paul shot from close range was saved by Fatorda’s keeper.
In the penalty shootout Akash, Deepraj, Siddharth, Paul and Aniket scored for Nerul while Valito, Clive and Neceil scored for Fatorda while Francis shot was saved. Nerul SC will take on Navelim Villagers Union in the semis.
