PANJIM: Goa’s Noel Noronha and Sachin Soares moved into quarter-finals in the Men’s 40+ Team event, in the Forza International Veteran Cup Table Tennis championship, at Dr S P Mukherjee stadium, Taleigao, on Monday.
The Goa paddlers won their qualifying league matches to reach the knock-out stages where Goa beat Fantastic Four, 3-1 in the pre-quarter finals. Sachin Soares lost to Ganpati Pai 5-11, 7-11, 11-13; Noel Noronha beat Vinodh R 11-7, 11-8, 11-9; Noel / Sachin beat Ravindra J / Harshad P 11-5, 11-8, 11-8; Noel Noronha beat Ganpati Pai 13-11, 11-13, 11-7, 11-8.
In Veterans 50+ Team category, former India International Sunil Babras teamed up with Vivek Alawani to reach the finals where they will face the Punjab team comprising of Pankaj Sharma, Vivek Arora, Harish Kakkar and Subhamay Chaterjee.
Slammers (Suhasini Bakre, Mantu Murmur and Maitry Karaby) and Indian Beauties (Neeta Kulkarni, Dr Anagha Joshi and Manisha Kataria) will clash in the women’s 50+ team finals .
