PANJIM: Peddem Sports Cub represented by Rutuj Sonawane, Pranav Naik, Shubham Mengane and Utkarsha Shivani emerged champions of the GCCI Cup Table Tennis Team Championship organized by Panjim Table Tennis Club in association with the Sports Authority of Goa, at Indoor Stadium, Campal, here, recently.
Little Penguin Sports Academy Blue represented by Kartik Iyer, Nagesh Verekar, Jaedan Gomes and Karishma D’Mello had to settle for the runners-up spot. The third place was shared by Ching Pong (Kewal Tahmankar, Selvyn Godinho, Jophilip George, Ralph Velho and Roshni Gopani) and Little Penguin Sports Academy Red (Wesley Rosario, Anshuman Agarwal, Yash Gianani and Sneha Rane).
In the GCCI Talent Search Cup which was fought between the losing quarter-finalists, Mushtifund Sports Academy A and Panjim Table Tennis Club emerged play-off winners and runners-up respectively while Mushtifund Sports Academy B and Nirman Constructions bagged the consolation prizes. The tournament was conducted by SAG coach Amit Naik.
Narayan Bandekar, President of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI); Mangirish Pai Raikar, former president of GCCI; Gaurish Dhond, vice-president, GTTA; RS Kamat (Director General, GCCI); Subhash Kolwalkar (TT coach); Lenny Rosario (former State player) and Sandeep Heble, secretary of Panjim TT Club were present at the prize distribution ceremony.
Results: GCCI Cup Final: Peddem Sports Club beat Little Penguin Sports Academy Blue 3-1. Rutuj Sonawane lost to Kartik Iyer 7-11, 11-13, 5-11; Utkarsha Shivani beat Karishma D’Mello 12-10, 14-12, 11-6; Pranav Naik/ Shubham Mengane beat Kartik Iyer/ Nagesh Verekar 11-7, 13-11, 11-9 and Pranav Naik beat Nagesh Verekar 11-9, 10-12, 11-9, 7-11, 11-4.
GCCI Talent Search Cup losing quarters play-offs: Mushtifund Sports Academy A beat Panjim TT Club 2-1. Mandar Joshi beat Ashutosh Chari 11-8, 11-8; Arya Divekar lost to Komal Salgaokar 11-13, 8-11 and Vaidik Srivastav beat Anang Mahato 11-9, 6-11, 11-9.
