MAPUSA: Parish Youth Nuvem managed to pip Saligao Sporting Club 1-0 to move into the quarter-finals of the 21st Vagator Soccer Cup, organised by Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club, played at Ozran ground, on Thursday.
Parish Youth Nuvem opened their account in the 23rd minute when Francis Colaco after getting hold of the ball relayed to well positioned Dagley Fernandes, whose placement hit the rival post and found the back of the net.
Saligao Sporting should have equalised when Shivanand Naik sent a neat pass to Uday Naik inside the penalty box but the latter failed to direct the shot past the rival keeper.
On resumption, once again Saligao Sporting came close in levelling terms in the 50th minute, but Michael Dias strike, off a pass from Sachianand Satelkar, missed the Nuvem target narrowly.
Nuvem almost netted in their second goal but Saligao Sporting keeper Inacio Menez pulled out a brilliant save from a rasping 10-yard shot of Nuvem’s Dagley Fernandes. In the closing stages of the match, Saligao Sporting’s Sachitanand Satelkar had a golden opportunity to equalise but Nuvem keeper Lawrence Dias brought up a brilliant save.
