FATORDA: Saviour of the World HS Loutolim edged past St Joseph Educational Institute, Chandor, 3-2 via the tie-breaker to move into the next round of the U-17 Subroto Mukherjee Salcette Taluka football tournament organised by DSYA, at Astroturf ground Fatorda, on Friday.
In the 8th minute, Saviour’s attacking midfielder Sachin Rathod took control of the ball from Loutolim defender Clinton Cruz and dribbled past St Joseph’s Pascoal Fernandes and Deran Cruz shot from the rival box but St Joseph keeper Livan Clement was eqaul to the task.
At the other end, St Joseph through striker Sildon Peixto should have netted but the striker’s shot was saved by Saviour’s keeper Sedrick Fernandes in the 12th minute.
Minutes later, Sildon Piexito’s goal-bound shot was palmed away by Saviour’s keeper which fell to Mackson Fernandes who shot immediately but the Lotoulim defender Clinton D’Cruz cleared the ball from the goal-line in the 48th minute.
Both the teams failed to find the match winner in regulation time.
In the resultant tie-breaker Saviour of the World HS netted through Nevil Fernandes, Josciton Andrade and Anson Souza while Alreach, Peixote and Royson Fernandes scored for St Joseph.
In the other match of the day, Fr.Agnel Multipurpose HSS, Verna scored a narrow 1-0 win over Infant Jesus HS, Colva. Sweton Rebello scored for the winners.
Perpetual Succour Convent HS, Navelim hammered AIM English HS, Davorlim 5-0. Freldon Gomes and Dyfan Fernandes netted a brace each while Wendell Fernandes netted a goal for the winners.
