PANJIM: Striker Shailesh Misquin struck two minutes before the final whistle as holders Bardez Veterans edged out Marc Caterers, Nuvem 1-0 to enter the last four of the 15th VM Salgaocar Memorial Veterans Football tournament, organized by Prime Sports Club, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Sunday.
Marc Caterers did well to contain last year’s winners Bardez Veterans. Although the ball was mostly in the midfield, a couple of long rangers did not trouble Bardez goalkeeper Jude Fernandes.
After resumption, Bardez striker Augustine Rodrigues and Shailesh Misquin continued to set up Allwyn Fernandes who faltered when it seemed that the match will be decided in the tie-breaker.
Bardez medio Allwyn found Shailesh Misquin on the top of the box and the striker wasted no time in unleashing a powerful right-footed drive which completely deceived Nuvem goal keeper Francis Fernandes, with just two minutes from the final whistle.
Earlier, chief guest Leslie Dourado, sarpanch of Seraulim Village Panchayat and the guest of honour Roque Fernandes were introduced to the teams.
