Shona felicitated on being appointed Tottenham Hotspur physiotherapist

PANJIM: Goan sports physiotherapist Shona Miranda was felicitated by Churchill Brothers Football Club for having been appointed as the sports physiotherapist of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club’s Senior Women team in London, Thursday.

Highlighting that it was a honour for Goa that the Cavelossim – born and bred girl became the first woman physiotherapist of the London-based famous Club -Tottenham Hotspur, Valanka Alemao, AIFF’s Chairperson of Women’s Committee and CEO of Churchill Brothers, pointed out that to start with Shona was the first woman sports physiotherapist to be roped in a senior men’s football team – Churchill Brothers FC as part of women’s empowerment and that she had discharged her duties with aplomb for five years before she migrated to London to pursue her further studies and earned the 2-year post graduation degree with Middlesex University.

Shona, who joined as a sports physiotherapist with Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, rose to become the full – fledged physiotherapist with the first senior women’s team which is playing in the Women’s Super League.

Shona disclosed that she had had taken up the first assignment in the men’s I-League team due to vision of her parents, father Laju, ex-Cavelossim Sarpanch, her mother, Telma former Bank Manager, her brother Cline and also due to Churchill Alemao and Valanka Alemao’s guidance. “They were my inspiration in pursuing a highly rewarding career. The motivation was theirs.”

‘’I started with the Foundation team at Tottenham and later on won a promotion to the senior women’s team. It is a privilege to work with such a great team in London. I am passionate about my work in a country where health care facilities follow a strict protocol and are of a very high standard,” commented Shona’.

“You perform as a professional and you are rewarded for your performance. It is a tough routine. For maintaining high standards and norms, you are held in high esteem, rewarded and treated as one of theirs,’’ added Shona. ‘‘The journey has been backbreaking, yet very sweet in the end, with the credit going to my parents whose support has been phenomenal, without which all this would not have been possible,’’ summed up Shona.
