RAIA: St Anthony Sports Club, Assolda, scored a solitary goal victory over hosts Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club to emerge champions of the 42nd Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat Cup 2025 inter-village football tournament organised by Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club at the Padribhat ground, Sao Jose de Areal, on Sunday.
Alvito Moura of Sao Jose de Areal SC and Roston Costa of St Anthony SC missed scoring chances in the first session. The winning goal for St Anthony SC was netted by Alton Vaz.
Chief guest Velim MLA Cruz Silva handed over the prizes in the presence of guests of honour St Joseph Church Parish Priest Fr Damaciano Carvalho, Curtorim Zilla Panchayat Member Michelle Rebello, special invitees former Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias, St Joseph Church Assistant Parish Priest Fr Slater Alemao, former Curtorim Zilla Panchayat Member Moreno Rebello, Sao Jose de Areal Administrator Anuradha Sarang, Secretary Aladin Maniyar, panch members, club members and other dignitaries.
On the occasion, village girl, India women U-17 football team player Valaina Fernandes was felicitated.
