MAPUSA: St. Anthony’s Sports Club, Marna registered a 4-2 win over Assonora United in the inaugural match of the 14th All Goa Late Pio Jose Gouveia Memorial inter-village Soccer tournament, organised by YSC Colvale, at Colvale church ground, here, on Wednesday.
Marna scored in the first minute when Marna’s Vipul Pednekar sent a cross to Mayuresh Naik who tapped the ball into the goal.
Vishnu Parwar equalised for Assonora in the 19th minute off a through ball by Jovian Conceicao who beat Marna keeper Salil Chari hands down.
In the 30th minute, Assonora’s Chetan Shirodkar’s chip missed the target and soon thereafter Chetan forced Marna keeper Salil to effect a briliant save.
On crossing over in the 45th minute, Videsh Sawant scored for Marna before the cheers died as Assonora equalised through Rahul Naik in the very next minute.
As the match progressed in 50th minute, Pushparaj Mandrekar put Marna ahead through superb glancing header while Ramnath Dhabolkar made it 4-2.
St. Anthony’s Marna’s Mayuresh Naik received the man-of-the-match award.
