RAIA: In a pulsating futsal match watched by a large gathering at the Simpliz Turf, Chandor, Team SCR got the better of Dezire 7 10-9 via sudden death to clinch the TCH Trophy.
The match started with Team SCR boys going on the offensive right from the word go. Team SCR could have opened their account in the very first minute but for a couple of good saves by the Dezire 7 goalkeeper ensured that they did not concede a goal.
Team SCR kept pressing hard and their efforts paid dividends when Stewart Costa scored with a thunderous drive to give his team the lead. The goal seemed to wake up the Dezire 7 boys who regrouped and quickly equalised through Aditya Talwar, who after dribbling a couple of players coolly placed the ball to make it 1-1.
At lemon break, the score was 1-1.
Changing ends, Team SCR dominated the proceedings and took the lead through Stewart Costa. Hardly had the cheers from the crowd died down, Team SCR scored another beautiful goal through Jerryl Moura to inflate the scoreline to 3-1.
Stung by two quick goals, Dezire 7 made a tactical change replacing their goalkeeper with an outfield player which gave them the required boost and scored through Sagar Pereira to make it 3-2.
Soon, Team SCR capitalised on a quick move and scored through Melchoir Moura for a 4-2 lead. Much against the run of play, Dezire 7 scored through Sagar Pereira to reduce the deficit to 3-4. A lapse in concentration by Team SCR during the dying moments of the match, allowed Dezire 7 to equalise through Sagar Pereira. The match ended 4-4 at regulation time. In the resultant tie-breaker, both teams converted their five penalty kicks but in the sudden death Team SCR goalkeeper made a diving save.
Team SCR were awarded a cash prize of Rs one lakh, medals, certificates and winners trophy, while Dezire 7 had to be content with a cash prize of Rs 70,000, medals, certificates and runners-up trophy.
A cash prize of Rs 40,000 each, medals and certificates were awarded to the third placed team Felix Brothers and Rittu Boys
Padmashree Brahmanand Sankwalkar and Savio Medeira, technical director of Sporting Clube De Goa were the chief guests and gave away the prizes in the presence of Joe Dias, Peter Gomes, Christopher Pereira, Deepak Karangate, Bapu Budelkar, Franky Pereira, while Gina Pereira, who sponsored and organised the TCH Cup Futsal tournament, proposed a vote of thanks.
