MARGAO: Verna Sports Club booked their place in the semi-finals of All-Goa 19th Sao Jose de Areal Villagers Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club defeating Sporting Club of Davorlim 4-1 via the tie-breaker at Padribhat ground, Sao Jose de Areal,Thursday. The teams were tied 1-1 at full time.
Davorlim started in right earnest and surged ahead in the 15th minute when striker Venson Figueiredo unleashed a stiff grounder beating rival goalkeeeper Franky Abranches all ends up. However, their joy was shortlived when rival striker Ajay Satarkar bulged the net in the 16th minute.
Verna went full throttle after the change of ends with striker Ajay Satarkar troubling the rival defence with pot shots.
In the penalty shoot out, Santan Rego, Myron Fernandes and Vijay Rego converted for Verna while none was successful for.
