In today’s IPL 2026 clash between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium (April 23, 2026), CSK players took the field wearing black armbands as a mark of respect and solidarity following a personal tragedy within their camp.
The gesture comes after the passing of the mother of CSK pacer Mukesh Choudhary, who had been battling a long-term illness and died at Tata Hospital in Mumbai earlier this week.
In an official statement, the Chennai Super Kings franchise expressed deep condolences and support for their player during this difficult time. The statement read: “The CSK family mourns the passing of Mukesh Choudhary’s mother. We stand with Mukesh and his family, keeping them in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”
Adding to this, the franchise also said: “CSK statement: This one is for Mukesh’s mother. In her memory, and in solidarity with Mukesh, we are wearing black armbands and playing with a little more in our hearts today.”
Despite the emotional setback, Mukesh Choudhary remained with the squad for the high-profile “El Clásico” encounter against Mumbai Indians. He was named in the playing XI, reflecting both his commitment to the team and the franchise’s support for him during a deeply personal loss.
The black armbands symbolised unity, respect, and collective strength as CSK stood firmly beside their teammate in a moment that went beyond the game.
