Rawalpindi police on Tuesday took the sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan into custody, bringing an end to a 10-hour sit-in staged outside Adiala Jail. The three sisters — Aleema, Dr Uzma, and Noreen — were moved to Chakri and are expected to return home with their cousin, Qasim Zaman.
The protest began near the Factory Checkpoint after Imran Khan’s family members and party leaders were denied their scheduled weekly meeting inside the jail. Despite several rounds of negotiations, Aleema refused to leave until a new meeting date was confirmed, insisting it be set for the upcoming Tuesday.

Around midnight, police dispersed the male PTI workers before the women’s police unit detained Khan’s sisters, placing them in a van and shifting them towards Chakri. After their detention, the hours-long sit-in dissolved, with remaining workers leaving peacefully.
PTI alleged on X that police used force against the sisters and other party workers, including KP minister Meena Khan Afridi and MNA Shahid Khattak. The party claimed several women were mishandled and taken into custody.
Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ain-e-Pakistan (TTAP) leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas strongly condemned the police action, calling it a violation of “humanity, faith and ethics.” He accused Punjab Police of acting on government orders and described the incident as a reflection of an “oppressive mindset.”
The Punjab government and police have not yet commented on the allegations.
