S Cong wants Rane to apologise for his ‘toilet’ remark

Calls upon the party to announce LS candidates in advance

MARGAO: The South Goa District Congress Committee on Monday demanded that senior party leader and former chief minister Pratapsingh Rane apologise for his ‘toilet’ remark and called upon the party to announce its candidates for the Lok Sabha elections in advance.
At the meeting, South Goa District Committee president Joe Dias said that Rane’s remark in the House on Goans doing menial jobs was discussed and the committee demanded an apology from the senior leader.
It is learnt that some district committee members had demanded stern action against Rane including his suspension from the party for some time to atone for the negative impact his statement had on the party.
However, after much discussion, it was decided to ask the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee to demand an apology from Pratapsingh Rane for his statement.
On the Lok Sabha elections scheduled next year, the District Committee resolved to ask the Pradesh Congress Committee to announce the candidates in advance.
“It was felt that the candidates should be announced as soon as possible to give them time to prepare instead of waiting for the announcement only when the election procedure commences,” said Dias.
