PANJIM: The Opposition comprising Congress, Goa Forward Party (GFP), MGP and an Independent, are set to jointly corner the government on the burning issues like Mhadei, Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), unemployment and financial position of the State during the upcoming five-day Budget Session beginning from February 3.
Addressing media persons on Saturday, GFP President Vijai Sardesai said that the Opposition would jointly demand a two and half hour long discussion on the contentious issues like diversion of Mhadei River water, CAA and National Registrar of Citizens (NRC) and reservation for Schedule Tribes.
“The discussion will be taken up jointly by the Opposition. I have already spoken to the Leader of Opposition Digamber Kamat about the same,” he said adding, “Will also approach NCP MLA Churchill Alemao for support to seek discussion on CAA.”
In the 40-member State Assembly, Congress has five legislators, GFP three, MGP one and one Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte.
Former deputy chief minister said that the Opposition has also jointly moved 15 calling attention on the burning issues, which have not come up as Starred questions.
The motions are moved on issues like closer of welfare schemes, PWD minister extortion case, western bypass, tiger killing, mysterious death of Merces panch Prakash Naik, ZP elections, infrastructural works, non-completion of Atal Setu, unemployment, death of seafarer, fake minister enjoying State hospitality, rise in fish prices, etc.
“We Opposition will coordinate to ensure that these issues that are burning are not neglected by the government,” Sardesai said.
The GFP legislative wing has also moved amendment to the Governor’s address on issues like safety of Goans and tourists, traffic sentinel scheme, tourism infrastructure, Mhadei, naphtha laden vessel, failure to provide grants to Marathi and Konkani medium schools, failure to implement community farming, etc.
