PANJIM: Karle River Villa located at Benaulim, Salcete, which is operating without consent to operate from the Goa State Pollution Control Board, has been warned that the residential complex will be shut down, if the owner of the complex fails to apply for consent within a fortnight.
GSPCB had on January 21 conducted inspection of the residential complex owned by M/s Karle Properties following complaints about waste being discharged into river Sal by people residing in the complex.
During the site inspection GSPCB officials observed that waste generated at the complex such as plastic and glass bottles, tins, cans and paper are being burned within the premises; sewage treatment plant (STP) was not operational and that the domestic waste water is discharged into river Sal. Those managing the complex also failed to produce consent to operate the STP from the Board, Chairman Jose Manual Noronha said. Accordingly, GSPCB earlier this week, under section of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and under section the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 directed the chairman of Karle Properties to apply for consent to operate under the Act within 15 days.
