Mining Transport Halted at Pilgao-Sarmanas Over Damage to Orchards

Mayem MLA Premendra Shet has directed the suspension of mining transport operations at Pilgao-Sarmanas following complaints from local farmers and horticulturists that the activity was damaging their fields and orchards.

Local youths brought the issue to the MLA’s attention, alleging that large quantities of soil were accumulating along the mining transport route and were being washed into nearby farms and orchards during rainfall, damaging crops.

The development has once again brought the dispute between local farmers and the Sesa-Vedanta mining company over mining transport to the forefront.
