MARGAO: Goa Seamen Association of India executive members along with president Franklin D’Costa met Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and requested him to intervene in the NUSI Wokhardt Hospital issue.
The NUSI Wokhardt Hospital has been closed for past many years without any prior notice as a result seafarers and their families face difficulties.
The CM is said to have assured to look into the matter and has decided to write to the Shipping Minister to resolve the matter at the earliest.
The GSAI also discussed about the formation of the Seafarers Cell to strengthen it with more staff and equipment such as computers and to build a seafarers house in the port town of Vasco which will benefit to international sailors who visit Goa as well to Indian sailors.
“The CM has assured to help us as always”, said Dixon Vaz, GSAI spokesperson.
GSAI called on the new NRI Director Shamsundar Parab, who has replaced U D Kamat and informed him on the issues related to seafarers and their families.
