MARGAO: Taking serious cognisance of SGPDA’s stinking markets, South Goa District Magistrate, N D Agrawal has issued notices to the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) and the Margao Municipal Council initiating proceedings under Section 133 of the Cr PC.
The notices were issued to the SGPDA and MMC on a petition filed by Madel resident Savio Dias highlighting the pathetic condition of the wholesale and retail markets in the Old Market area. In a conditional order passed under Section 133 of the Cr P C, the district magistrate directed SGPDA and MMC to take corrective steps to stop the nuisance at the wholesale fish market at Maddel and SGPDA market. The two agencies were further directed to take steps to ensure cleanliness and hygiene in both markets within 15 days.
SGPDA member secretary and MMC CO have been directed to appear before the Magistrate on June 5, at 3 pm either in person or by a duly authorised agent to show cause why the conditional order should not be made absolute.
In the order, the district magistrate pointed out that foul smell is affecting the citizens moving along the National Highway and the residents and occupants of KTC Bus stand area and nearby areas.
“I am prima facie satisfied that this is a fit case to proceed under Section 133 of the Cr PC since there were no improvements in the market despite the unhygienic conditions being brought to the notice of the SGPDA”, the magistrate said.
