United Club of Utorda defeated Sporting Club of Davorlim 2-1 to lift the Lourdes Soccer Cup at SAG ground, Utorda on Sunday. The teams were tied 1-1 at the break.
Davorlim were reduced to ten men in the seventh minute when their keeper was given marching orders for bringing down Russel Monteiro as he was about to punt the ball into an empty net. Utorda surged ahead in the 12th minute through a well taken free-kick by Russel Monteiro. Davorlim fought back strongly and succeeded in restoring parity in the 22nd minute through Romeo Colaco.
Crossing over, Russel Monteiro’s strike rounded off the tally.
The winners were richer by Rs. 25,000 while the runners-up had to content with Rs. 20,000. Following individual prizes were awarded: Best disciplined team Raia SC. Best player and 1st scorer of the finals Russel Monteiro. Best half Elly Monteiro. Best goalkeeper Joel Monteiro. Best defender Romeo Colaco.
Viola Pacheco was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. Govind Kantak, president, proposed the vote of thanks.
