PANJIM: Crime Branch (CB) is likely to submit a chargesheet against Calangute MLA Michael Lobo in the seven-year-old case of forgery of coastal regulation zone (CRZ) no objection certificate (NOC).
The chargesheet will be filed before the Mapusa judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) under various sections of Indian Penal Code. “Chargesheet is most likely to be filed on Friday,” an officer said.
The case pertains to a complaint filed in 2009 that a hotel, where Lobo is a 25 per cent business partner was built within 500 mtrs of the coastline. The probe had also revealed that there was no conversion sanad issued by the district collectorate, for the survey numbers 319/2, 3,5, and 12 at Calangute.
With the filing of the chargesheet, Lobo could face another FIR for forgery of the NOC under the letter head Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority. Government officials who abetted the crime in 2006 will also face charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
According to the forged NOC issued to one Gurunek Singh Mann on May 17, 2006; the plot in survey numbers 319/2, 3,5, and 12 at Calangute was located beyond 500 mtrs from the high tide line.
