A house partially collapsed on Monday due to heavy rains at Gaonkarwada-Bicholim causing a loss of about Rs 30,000.
The incident occurred at about 7 pm when a wall of the house belonging to one Bhivaji Dattu Gaonkar collapsed, damaging property worth Rs 30,000.
The fire brigade rushed to the site but was unable to clear the debris as the roof was in a dangerous position and was likely to collapse at any time. The family members were asked to move to a safer place by the side of the house.
Mayem correspondent adds: Heavy rains affected normal life in Bicholim taluka on Monday and the fire services had to attend to a number of calls during the day.
Roads and low lying areas were filled with rainwater, causing hardship to motorists and residents.
Though there were continuous rains, there is no fear of floods for now as the Anjunem dam has not reached the danger level.
Incidentally, the PWD has failed to remove the mud from the basin of the Bicholim River, which was left while constructing one pillar of the parallel bridge.
