PANJIM: Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) has granted in-principle nod for declaring an additional 108 kms as National Highway (NH) and 208 kms as Economic Corridor. MORTH Minister Nitin Gadkari, however, expressed unhappiness over the progress of ongoing works in Goa.
Gadkari on Monday chaired a review meeting of the ongoing projects of MORTH and National Highway Authority of India, in Goa. In a two-day meeting he is reviewing the progress of ongoing National Highway Projects across the country.
A statement issued by Press Information Bureau (PIB) said, “Gadkari expressed unhappiness over the progress of ongoing work in the state of Goa. In Goa, total length of existing national highways is 262 kms and in principle nod has given to 108.5 km as National Highway and 208 km as Economic Corridor,” PIB said.
The year 2018 has been declared as a ‘construction year’ by the Ministry. Gadkari has directed officers and contractors to complete the work of 27,000 kms in respect of the projects which were awarded before March 2015.
“427 projects are being undertaken by National Highway Authority of India while Ministry of Road Transport has undertaken the work of 369 projects each above the cost of Rs 100 crore,” PIB said.
It said that out of over 700 projects undertaken, 300 projects will be completed before March 2019.
Public Works Department Minister Ramakrishan (Sudin) Dhavalikar, officers from MORTH, officers from NHAI and all State representatives were present at the meeting.
