PANJIM: PWD minister Ramkrishna Sudin Dhavalikar reacting to the recent utterances and allegations on the May 8 gazette notification through which government levied entry/toll tax on Goan vehicles at the Border checkpost, argued that the government had no intention to do so but was only thinking of bringing in the people who had been left out of the ambit of the entry tax.
“We have no intention of taxing local vehicles. In case it was done, it was a mistake,” the minister told media outside the chief minister’s office, adding that they had only imposed entry/toll tax on vehicles from neigbouring districts.
“They should approach us for passes. These will be at discounted rates,” he said.
The NCP, in a press conference Tuesday had opposed the imposition of tax on Goa registered vehicles citing that government had done this on the quiet after the Lok Sabha elections and was cheating the people and small traders. The party appealed to the PWD Minister to do a rethink on the notification and rollback the tax which was imposed through the PWD.
