BICHOLIM: Bicholim Deputy Collector Narayan Gaad on Thursday visited different mining pits in Shirgao, Mayem, Poira and Dhabdhaba-Bicholim and inspected the precautionary measures taken by the mining companies during the monsoon.
Gaad, who was accompanied by WRD AE P V Sreekumar and other officials, visited Chowgule Mines at Shirgao, where assistant General Manager Ramesh Chodankar briefed him about the safety measures adopted by the mining companies.
Chodankar informed that the company has also taken measures like covering the iron ore with the help of a tarpaulin besides, proper drainage system to have a proper flow of water to avoid accidents.
Chodankar also informed that four pumps of higher capacity have been installed to pump out water from the pits to a safer area. Gaad also visited Sesa Goa Mines at Dhabdhaba-Bicholim, where he was briefed by General Manager Sheshaila Gauda, Sandeep Naik, Dr Govind Parab, Abdulla Khan and Vandita Korgaonkar about the safety measures adopted.
Gaad later said he will constantly inspect the mining pits in Bicholim to avoid accidents or casualties which may occur during monsoon.
