MARGAO: Green Goa Foundation has demanded criminal action against officials of the Cuncolim Municipal Council for misappropriating funds to the tune of Rs 3.70 crore, as revealed by a special audit team during the audit year 2012-13.
GGF has also brought the issue to the notice of the Secretary of the Home Department, Director of Vigilance and the Superintendent of Police.
“Newspapers reported that the Anti-Corruption Branch had registered a case against the CMC officials. However, no arrests have been made, and the affairs of the Council are still being run in the same manner,” said GGF, adding, “There should not be a case where the guilty is let off on a technical ground and therefore public funds should not be wasted.”
GGF has also requested the authorities to ensure that the erring officials are arrested and criminal action is initiated against them.
within 15 days, failing which the NGO would approach the High Court.
